What to Look for in a CarFax History Report
It's pretty well understood that it is a good idea to get a CarFax History report on a used car that you are considering purchasing. What information do you need to get from the CarFax?
- Accident History - lets you know if the car has been in a reported traffic accident. It will also tell you if the car has a salvage title, meaning the car was totalled for insurance purposes.
- Where Car Has Been Registered - will tell you where in the country the car has been registered in the past. Why is this important? In the Dallas area, you'll want to know if the car was present during hurricanes. You'll want to know if the car was in the New Orleans area during Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, or in the SE Texas / SW Louisiana area during Hurricane Rita in September 2005. Depending on where the car was, you may want to research that area for the time period. If the car was in the storm-affected area, you'll want to examine the car carefully for signs of flood damage.
